      The Association of Astronomy Educators has two time blocks at the NSTA National Convention in New Orleans and we would like YOU to present! The sessions below are geared toward K-12 educators and center around two broad subject areas: (1) Sun, Earth and Planets and (2) Beyond the Solar System.

      We would like to have folks sign up for one of eight 12-minute hands-on slots to present a classroom-ready teaching activity to NSTA attendees. We strongly encourage a hands-on, active audience participation model for these presentations. Anyone who would like to share is welcome to submit their name and a descriptive title by 5pm EST on March 13, 2009. Please feel free to pass this email along to anyone you think may be interested in presenting.

      When you are positive you will be attending the meeting, you can apply to present by sending the following information via private email to Aleya VanDoren. Please be sure to put "What's Up? NSTA New Orleans" in the subject line.

      We will try to select presenters from a wide range of topics from those that apply. Please note that the individual presentation length time may change depending on the number and types of presentation requests received. Also please note that AAE is not able to provide any funds to support travel.

      The AAS and Association for AAE present an evening reception for K-12 teachers to gain knowledge and resources to take back to their classrooms to cover the latest science being discussed during the conference week. At the reception, teachers will be exposed to background scientific content through presentations related to the conference sessions, will have a chance to mingle with astronomers and will take home resources (and new connections) to use in their classrooms. The reception will be held on Sunday 1 June 2008 from 5:30 - 8:30pm at the Renaissance St. Louis Grand Hotel, Majestic B. Registration for this even is now open. Space is limited so be sure register fast!

      In the run up to preparations for the International Year of Astronomy 2009, a number of outreach activities and national events are currently being developed. To encourage international collaborations and support educators and science communicators in the field of astronomy the UK Association for Astronomy Education has set up a new email discussion listserve with the main aim of exchanging ideas, best practices and resources. The listserve is open to everyone with an interest in Astronomy from all sectors of education, public outreach, academic and amateur astronomy, and can be found at: www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/ASTRONOMY-EDUCATION.html
