Some additional questions involving units and conversions

  1. You probably know that the speed of light is approximately c = 300,000,000 m/s. But what is the speed of light expressed in furlongs per fortnight? A "furlong" is five and one half yards -- you may see it used to describe horse races. A "fortnight" is a period of two weeks.

  2. The new Chevy Corvette has an engine with a displacement of 5.7 liters. Back in the Old Days, people described engine displacements in cubic inches. Do the conversion.

  3. Raging Tom becomes angry with the Atlantic Ocean after his sunglasses fall into the surf and are swept away. "I'll get you!" he cries, and, grabbing a nearby teaspoon, he begins to scoop water out of the ocean. A standard teaspoon contains about 5 cubic centimeters of water. If Joe removes one teaspoon of water per second, how long will it take him to empty the Atlantic Ocean basin?
