Personal Highlights

Hiya. I wish I had the time to spend writing web pages and whatnot, but since I don't, here's a brief summary of who I am and what I do around here...

I'm the Lead Architect, or Software Architect, or Team Leader, or Chief Wombat Trainer, in the Laboratory of Imaging Algorithms and Systems (LIAS), here in the RIT Center for Imaging Science. Two recent projects with a modestly high profile on which I've led the technical design and development would be...

The Wildfire Airborne Sensor Platform is, essentially, an automated fire detection and mapping platform that operates in real time while mounted in an aircraft. This system, funded by NASA, was developed to support the US Forest Service in their border patrol and forest fighting capacities. We're capable of reducing the turnaround time on analyzing fire flyover time from hours to minutes. As the project enters its operation phase, we'll be posting results and putting up a website with our project data.

The SOFIA Data Cycle System is a distributed software system we're building to manage the processing of large quantities of image data in a automatic, relentless, pipelining style. We've designed and built this system for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), where were are working with the Universities Space Research Association (USRA) in the development of both the airborne and ground-based software system supporting the Stratospheric Observatory For Infra-red Astronomy (SOFIA).
