Personal Highlights

I have been working with Professor Hailstone in the Silver Halide Science Lab within CIS for over 5 years. As a scientist, I am involved with several research projects that are enabling us to make faster and finer grain photographic films. My research interest include emulsion making processes, latent image formation, latent image location, and chemical sensitization.

Part of my work involves the design and construction of the research equipment used in lab. The Silver Halide Science Lab. relies heavily on computer technology to provide the control needed during the grain growth and sensitizing processes used in producing photographic emulsions. Unlike many common computer applications, our computers need to control pumps, valves, temperature control systems, and communicate with various measurement instruments. In the future, I would like to install robotics to help with some of the chemical processes now done by hand.

Before coming to CIS, I received my BS and MS degrees in Photographic Science and Instrumentation at RIT. The program has since become the Imaging Science program. After graduating, I was employed 8 years within the photographic industry working on image quality and film performance measurements, along with photographic emulsion formulations. My experiences have provided me opportunities to consult on emulsion making technology, publish and present several papers on my research, and visit a number of photographic manufacturers in the U.S. and Europe.
