Could it be that a copy of William Lambarde’s Archaionomia, a book on Anglo-Saxon law published in 1568 and acquired by the Folger Shakespeare Library in 1938, has a faded signature that has been judged by several authorities to be from Shakespeare himself (of which there are only a half dozen known to exist)?
Dr. Roger Easton, Jr., Professor at the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science, has written a post analyzing just that. By using spectral imaging techniques, Easton and his team hope to contribute new evidence that can be used by scholars to potentially authenticate the signature.
