Roy S. Berns, Ph.D. is Director of MCSL and has been active in color-difference experiments and formula development throughout his career, participating in the development of CIE94 and CIEDE2000. He has performed extensive research in modeling coloration systems using analytical and empirical approaches. Berns’ current research is the spectral and geometric archiving and reproduction of cultural heritage. (more information)
Mark D. Fairchild, Ph.D. is the Color Science Graduate Coordinator and one of the leading researchers, internationally, in developing models of color appearance, both for single colors and images. He is active in the CIE and his current research includes observer metamerism and mapping between highdynamic range and conventional displays, for both reducing and expanding perceived color gamut. (more information)
James A. Ferwerda, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor with a growing research program in measuring, modeling, and predicting material appearance using imaging science and computer graphics. Such research expands MCSL capabilities and advances our understanding of the influence of geometric attributes such as gloss, texture, and translucency on total appearance. (more information)
Jinwei Gu, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in MCSL. His research focuses on computational photography for material appearance acquisition and categorization, physics-based computer vision for appearance enhancement, and data-driven computer graphics for modeling and rendering complex real-world materials. (more information)
David R. Wyble, Ph.D. is in charge of color measurements at MCSL including contract services and insuring traceability to national standards. His research encompasses defining spectrophotometer precision and accuracy and material standards for goniospectrophotometry. (more information)
