About the Center for Imaging Science
|

We have 36 research and teaching laboratories
dedicated to specialized areas of imaging science,
including electronic imaging, digital image processing,
remote sensing, medical imaging, color science, optics,
and chemical imaging.
Where can you find our graduates? We work in many
different fields, from engineering to education. We hold
job titles such as Medical Physicist, Imaging
Development Engineer, Associate Professor,
Intelligence and Surveillance Chief, NASA Sub-System
Manager/ Scientist, Photographic Engineer, Senior
Imaging Scientist, Simulation & Visual Systems
Software Engineer, Physical Scientist and Image
Research Associate.
Our graduates are involved in projects that include: product development, testing and
training on computer-to-photo systems, developing imaging systems for research
experiments, electronic imaging design and development, and maintaining the
condition of chemicals used for space shuttle film processing.
Academic programs in topics related to imaging began at RIT in 1930 with the
establishment of a formal curriculum in photographic science. The first BS degree was
granted in 1955, and the MS degree followed approximately 10 years later. The Ph.D.
program in imaging science, the first and only Imaging Science Ph.D. program in the nation,
produced our first graduate in 1993.
We offer degrees at the bachelor, master and doctoral level. Join us if you want to go
beyond studying imaging science and really experience imaging science.
