QuickTime VRs

Woa...
This page includes a number of QuickTime VR objects that I have rendered and constructed. They illustrate various color spaces, color gamuts, and the famous MCSL logo. All of the objects were originally rendered using NAG Iris Explorer on an SGI Onyx2 InfiniteReality2 system. Frames were saved and built into QuickTime VR objects using Apple QuickTime VR Authoring Studio. You will need QuickTime Player to view and interact with these objects. These files are quite large since the images were rendered at a relatively high spatial resolution and minimal compression was appplied to preserve image quality.

Munsell Icon

Munsell Book of Color

A 3D rendering of samples from the Munsell Book of Color. The range of colors rendered was limited to that available within a typical CRT display. (5.9 MB QuickTime VR)

Gamuts Icon

Device Gamuts

A 3D rendering of two device gamuts represented in the CIELAB color space. The wireframe model represents the gamut of a typical CRT computer monitor while the solid model represents the gamut of a typical dye-diffusion thermal-transfer printer. (5.9 MB QuickTime VR)

Gamuts Icon

MCSL Logo

The Munsell Color Science Laboratory logo. This logo, which is normally rendered in a single view as illustrated at the top of this page, was originally constructed as a 3D logo with the intent that it would eventually be animated as technology developed. The logo is an idealized representation of the Munsell space. The segments are shaped like prisms to reflect the importance of the prism and three-dimensionality in color science. Each of the five segments represents one of the five principal hues (red, yellow, green, blue, and purple) of the Munsell System. The relative heights of the segments represent the Munsell Value at which the sample of maximum Munsell Chroma occurs for each of the five principal hues (e.g., high-chroma yellow is lighter than high-chroma purple) (832 KB QuickTime VR)

Gamuts Icon

CIELAB LCh

A 3D rendering of the L*, C*, h representation of the CIELAB color space. The range of colors rendered was limited to that available within a typical CRT display. (5.8 MB QuickTime VR)

Gamuts Icon

OSA UCS

A 3D rendering of OSA UCS (Optical Society of America Uniform Colorr Scales) L, j, and g dimensions. The range of colors rendered was limited to that available within a typical CRT display. (5.8 MB QuickTime VR)
