SUMMARY:CIS Seminar - Gordon Legge\: Visual Factors Affecting Reading\: The Big Three
DESCRIPTION:
Research on the visual component of reading has been motivated by two goals\: to
understand how physical characteristics of text constrain reading performance\, and to
understand how properties of the visual pathway affect reading in both normal and
impaired vision. I will describe how we measure reading vision and discuss the impact
of three major factors\, character size\, text contrast\, and the properties of the visual
field. I will discuss findings from both normal and impaired vision.

Gordon Legge
Chair\, Psychology Dept.
Director\, Minnesota Laboratory for Low-Vision Research
Distinguished McKnight Univ. Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience
University of Minnesota
&nbsp\;
For the latest in schedules\, abstracts\, as well as video archives of past seminares\, visit the <a href=\\"../../event/2009/06/19/day/seminars\\">CIS seminar page.

SUMMARY:Color Science Research Group Meeting
DESCRIPTION:
This week's Color Science Research Group Meeting will feature Brian Gamm\, color science MS student\, presenting work he did last summer at RIT's Printing Application Laboratory. The meeting will be held in the Fran Grum Color Science Learning Center\, 18-1080.

Planning a New Sampling Method for the Goss Sunday 2000 Web Press

The RIT Printing Applications Laboratory operates a Goss Sunday 2000 Web Press. The press is color controlled by press operators and an online color control system responsible for bringing the press to\, and maintaining process control. The sampling frequency of the online system is minimized for process control. Printed units are sampled for both the client and post-printing analysis in PAL’s printing materials lab. However\, a sampling plan has not been designed to ensure each sample set is a representation of the complete press run\, nor is there a historical data set for variability analysis. This presentation will describe a method for determining a statistical sampling plan for the PAL’s web press based upon an objective to minimize type two error.
