STUDENT PROFILE

Geoffrey Franz - Class of 2005

Geoffrey Franzly is a fourth-year imaging science major from Virginia. Since arriving at RIT in the fall of 2002 he's worked almost continuously with Professor Joel Kastner on various tasks involving astronomical image processing and astronomy research. Geoff's primary responsibilities have involved analysis of Chandra X-ray Observatory images. Most recently he has been working hard on a unique dataset: a 10-day observation of the young star cluster in the Orion Nebula. Geoff's work includes developing image visualization tools to prepare images for publication in major astrononomical journals; he's a co-author on a forthcoming paper in the Astrophysical Journal. Geoff also accompanied Dr. Kastner to Bonn, Germany to attend a team meeting of X-ray astronomers working on the Orion Nebula Chandra data.
