NITEC 2000 CD-ROM Call for Contributions!

As CIPE has done in 1997, 1998, and 1999, a CD-ROM of contributions from all conference participants will be produced and distributed. The NITEC 2000 CD-ROM will be sent to all participants in the fall of 2000. Additional copies of the CD-ROM will be available for $25/each (previous years’ CD-ROMs are also available for $25/each).

You are invited to contribute images, GIS project files, classroom lessons, research reports, your conference presentation and other electronic material to the CD-ROM.

To contribute to the NITEC 2000 CD-ROM, use one of the following options:

- Send your files as an email attachment to nitec@cis.rit.edu.

In the subject line for the email, identify it as a NITEC 2000 submission. In the body of the email, provide contact information, including home and office telephone numbers, and best times to reach you.

Please be sure to include a list of all files you are sending, and that all materials meet the submission guidelines listed below.

- If you have large files, or a large number of files, you may upload your materials directly to the NITEC FTP site. Please email nitec@cis.rit.edu for further instructions.

- Bring your files to NITEC 2000 and upload them on the NITEC 2000 CD-ROM computers.

Observe the following guidelines when submitting your contribution:

- If contributing files via email or the ftp site and you have large files or a relatively slow Internet connection, consider compressing your files with Winzip or Stuffit.

- If contributing onsite at the conference, submit the files on Windows . or Macintosh formatted floppy disks, CD-ROMs, or Iomega Zip Disks (100 Meg).

- Submit images that are to be used with NIH Image or Scion Image in uncompressed TIFF format.

- Submit other images in standard formats: GIF, JPG, PNG, BMP. Do not submit images in proprietary formats specific to an image capture device or software program. Use your image capture program or an image conversion program such as IrfanView for Windows computers (available free at http://stud1.tuwien.ac.at/~e9227474/) or GraphicConverter for Macintosh (available as shareware at http://www.lemkesoft.de/) to convert your files into a standard format.

- Append each image file name with the appropriate extension (e.g. TIF, JPG, GIF, PNG, etc.).

- Submit text documents in Microsoft Word format. If submitting a document that refers to the images in your submission, include the images as thumbnail-sized graphics in the document.

- Do not use the following characters in a filename: * / : ; ? \.

- With each submission, include a brief Readme file that explains what the submission is and how it may be used for teaching. Include your name and other contact information in the Readme file. If your files are platform specific (for example, an executable that will only run on a Windows computer), note the platform specificity in the Readme file.

- Complete and submit permission forms for all material contributed to the CD-ROM. Note that you must have written permission to use images of any persons. You must also have written permission to contribute copyrighted and copyrightable materials produced by other people and organizations. If you are uncertain about whether you need permission for materials included with your submission, refer to the Fair Use Guidelines posted on the NITEC 2000 CD-ROM web page: http://www.eVisual.org/NITEC/NITEC2000CD.html.
