Preparing for a Job Interview

 
  Possible contents of a resume:

    -Name
    -Phone number, address, e-mail
    -Objective/goals
    -Education/GPA
    -Work experience
    -Skills
    -Projects (other than work experience)
    -References
    -Awards/decorations
    -Society memberships
    -Publications/Thesis
    -Photo
    -Social interests

What employers may be looking for on your resume:
 
    -Mispellings
    -Top third of resume
    -Format
    -GPA/School (name recognition)
    -Cover letter

What to expect from an interview process:

    -Making a technical presentation (30-40 min)
    -Technical questions (ex: how do you calibrate a specific detector?)
    -Generic questions (ex: what do you expect from a job with this company?)
    -One-on-one sequential intervewers vs. panel of interviewers
 
Deciding on a salary:

    -Research market value for a professional with your skills and experience
    -Determine an acceptable salary (perhaps 20% above average) based on market value
    -Salaries depend on geographic location
 
How to achieve a successful interview: 

    -Emphasize you are a team player
    -Let them know that you are willing to work hard for them
    -Show confidence
    -Rely on education and experience
    -Do not ovelook the importance of company-personal relations
    -Research the company you want to work for
    -Ask questions at the interview!
    -Wear professional clothing
    -Informal lunches and exchanges with company personal are just as important as formal interview sessions
    -Develop good interpersonal skills
    -Remeber names

Practicing for an interview:

    -We need to decide what we can do as a class to prepare ourselves
        -Mock interviews?
        -Relate interview experiences to one another?
        -Post "interview stories"?
