The Course: This is the second quarter of a three quarter course designed to further develop skills in scientific research, technical report writing, and technical presentations. Students perform independent research under the supervision of a faculty supervisor.

Week 10 - TBA, Two hours for oral progress reports.

Texts: There are no text books required for this course.
Assignments: Research Timetable - A list of significant specific aspects of your research you expect to accomplish and the dates which you expect to have accomplished these aspects. The format should be such that you have an entry for each week of this quarter and a few dates from next quarter. Graphic or tabular form is acceptable. Please place this timetable on the web as a link off of your web page.

Web Progress Reports - A written summary of the significant accomplishments thus far in the research project. This report should be between 300 and 400 words in length. When you post it on the web as a link off of your home page, please revise your timetable.

Advisor Feedback - An e-mail note from your advisor to me (with c.c. to you) indicating your performance to date on your research project. Your advisor should indicate if you are performing A, B, C, D, or F work and what you need to do to improve. You must initiate this e-mail.
Oral Progress Report - An oral summary of the significant accomplishments thus far in the research project. The length will be fifteen minutes with two minutes for questions. Visual aids are recommended.

Examinations: There are no formal exams in this course.

Evaluation: Your grade will be based on your performance on both your research and the assignments. Approximate weights are as follows:
5% Timetable
5% Advisor E-mails
5% 1st Web Progress Report
5% 2nd Web Progress Report
20% Oral Progress Report
60% Research advisor's assessment of research effort and progress.
Assignment due dates are listed in the calendar and will be adhered to. Late assignments will not be accepted.
